Better Preventive and Curative Health Care

India's health indicators are not improving as fast as other socio-economic indicators. Good healthcare is perceived to be either unavailable or unaffordable. How can we improve healthcare conditions, both curative and preventive, especially relating to women and children?

Village Health and Sanitation Committee would be one of the best platforms for bringing together these services. However the key person of this committee i.e. Sarpanch is not much aware and not sensitive to the situation.

There should be regular meetings at PHCs organized by the medical officers to sensitize the PRI members regarding the problems and make them realize that they could solve the issues easily through integrated sustained efforts.

The activities of Village health committee/ sanitation committees will be supervised by a person trained/experienced with PUBLIC HEALTH i.e. Public Health Manager.
This post should be created at preferably Block or district level by employing persons with experience of or knowledge of public health.

village is the smallest governing unit...for avillage where the population is less as compared to the cities...the panchayat must look into these matters..it can be done by forming a committee within the panchayat...the responsible department must inform about the duties properly to the members of the panchayats...so that they could easily perform this task in village level...

• As stated above villages should be formed into small groups.
• Mobile clinics cum diagnostic lab should be established. They should visit every village/groups of village in their beat at least once in a week and offer healthcare, free of cost/subsidized.
• Similarly there should be a mobile information cell comprising of teachers from colleges in the vicinity which will create awareness and impart education on important issues such as personal hygiene, spread of water and air borne diseases, conservation of water, handling of food and water etc.
• Such education should be audio visual so that it is interesting and it should be coupled with some entertainment.
• PHCs should be able to provide best healthcare from modern as well as AYUSH. As stated elsewhere treatment protocol for common ailments affecting rural populace should be defined and followed. This will ensure quick and effective first line treatment.
• PHCs should be run by private enterprise. The treatment and medicines should be delivered free and the bill should be borne by Government. The fee structure should be defined.
