Better Preventive and Curative Health Care

India's health indicators are not improving as fast as other socio-economic indicators. Good healthcare is perceived to be either unavailable or unaffordable. How can we improve healthcare conditions, both curative and preventive, especially relating to women and children?

Just my random thinking that establish some health call centre (24X7) with the provision of toll free numbers who will provide the information ranging from first aid to ciritical disease, possible treatment, availability of PHC/Hospital in thir area, if not where should go, whome to contact. Estimated cost of the treatment. Avilability of beds etc. These are all just thinking may be structured more meaningfully for better implementation.

Now a days mobile is very common for all. Some mass SMS bases awareness campaign may be floted to aware the community. I am sure a quick start will give better and fast results.

Provide free health Insurance to Women of all ages and children up-to the age of 12. Connect all Rural Health care centers and Government Hospitals online with corporate hospitals and specialists . All lab test reports can be mailed to these specialists who in-turn can give prescriptions based on these reports online. Probably even courier medicines to them.I guess the Doctors will be more than happy to do this as they can en-cash on the insurance.

I think organising health awareness programs will help the people to have a good understanding of maintaing hygeine and staying healthy.I have seen still in some cities there are house wives who keep their houses very dirty, don't maintain hygeine. Simply telling them, they don't listen to us.may be through TV programs, or through local clubs and channel we can teach them how to maintain hygeine in day to day activities, which in turn will help in living a healthy life.

There are still some villages where they believe home-made medicines will cure them, but instead they fall more sick. People should be educated and free medical health campaigning should be made for remote areas. And we indians should make sure doctors going to these remote places won't charge money from them.

Our plans should concentrate on making available all essential health care facilities for each locality in urban areas and in each village (for specified population groups). These should be able to refer cases beyond their capacity to District/Taluka/Specialty Hospitals in REAL TIME. Large Hospitals should be in the Private Sector but under strict regulatory control of the State/Union Health Ministry.

• AYUSH and modern medicine should be integrated in all state run health care facilities especially in rural areas as AYUSH has great potential for cheap first line treatment.
• State run hospitals should provide health care at cost related to income of the patients.
• There should be ceiling for all health care provided under health insurance
• The bills far exceeding the ceiling should be audited.
• Just as there is DRUG Price Control Order there should be some control on health care cost especially to economically weaker sections.
• Many literate people are unaware of importance of personal hygiene, handling of food and water, and general cleanliness in home and kitchen. This should be given due priority. This will reduce the disease burden.
• Similarly awareness regarding nutrition has to be improved.
• Certain known nutritional deficiencies should be monitored at school level and remedial measures should be taken.
• A scheme can be considered where any person can pay certain amount related to his income as a health fund. Any health care required by that person and his family should be provided free in state/municipal hospital. This is not medical insurance. The person pays in proportion of his income and treatment is completely free.
• Prevention is better than cure. The mobile diagnostic units suggested above should carry out routine pathological examination of all villagers/slum-dwellers every 6 months. This will help early diagnosis and intervention.
